Another wonderful day here in Ecuador. Our day started off with classes in out apartments because the school we primarily use was closed for the Fourth of July holiday! (We hold our classes at the Fulbright Institution here in Quito which is an entity ran by the United States.) We had a guest speaker from Volunteer Ecuador come and talk to us about the service project that we will be doing next week which was such a treat. His name was Francisco and he has been such an inspiration to service here in Ecuador. He gave us the run down of our service week next week and all that it will entail. We will be traveling to a local private school here in Quito and we will be teaching the students English and doing various activities and crafts with them. Francisco spoke a lot on how crucial it is for us to behave as role models for this children and how important it is for us to encourage them to achieve their dreams. I cannot wait to make special connections with these children and learn from all their love and compassion.
Post class a few friends and I went to Plaza Foch and went to watch the Brazil vs. Colombia World Cup game! I was such a ridiculous game. I decided when I was watching that I am going to sign my kids up for soccer and then move to a South American country so I can have them one day play in the World Cup. I mean, these guys are amazing! It was so fun being in South America and watching the World Cup in a country where futbol is so important in their culture.
Then...
SALSA TIME!
We went to the Volunteer Ecuador Center and we had private salsa lessons from a man named Jose who was absolutely brilliant at salsa! It was so fun to be able to dance and here in Ecuador and learn salsa from someone who lives and breathes the art form. It was a great way to spend the Fourth of July here in Ecuador!
